Why Your Website Gets Visitors but No Enquiries (and How to Fix It)

SPIDY DIGITAL Team · October 26, 2026 · 3 min read

Traffic alone does not generate business. These are the most common reasons visitors leave, and the practical fix for each one.

You have a website, people are visiting, and yet the phone does not ring. This is one of the most common problems we see, and it is usually fixable. Visitors leave when they are confused, when the site is slow, or when they do not know what to do next. Here are the seven most common reasons, and what to do about each one.

1. The website is slow on mobile

Most visitors come from a phone. If a page takes more than a few seconds to open, many of them leave before they read a single word. Compress large images, remove heavy effects and test your site on mobile data, not just on Wi-Fi.

2. The first screen does not explain what you do

A visitor should understand three things in a few seconds: what you offer, who it is for, and what to do next. Replace vague lines like Welcome to our website with a clear promise, for example Admissions support for schools and colleges.

3. There is no clear next step

If people have to hunt for your phone number or a contact form, most will not. Put one main button, such as Get a Free Quote or Book a Free Demo, at the top of every page and repeat it after each section.

4. The enquiry form is too long or does not work

Every extra field loses some visitors. Ask only for what you need, usually name, phone and email. Test your form regularly by submitting it yourself, and make sure the message actually reaches your inbox.

5. Visitors cannot reach you quickly

Many people prefer a quick message to filling a form. A WhatsApp button that opens a ready-made message makes it easy to reach you in one tap. Also show your phone number and email in the header or footer.

6. There is no proof that you are trustworthy

People trust what others say about you more than what you say about yourself. Add real customer reviews, results, photos of your work and the names of clients you have helped, with their permission.

7. You are not tracking anything

If you do not know where visitors come from or where they leave, you are guessing. Set up Google Analytics and Search Console, and track form submissions and button clicks. Even a simple monthly report will show you which pages work and which need fixing.

Quick checklist

  • Mobile page opens in a few seconds
  • Top of the page says what you do and who it is for
  • One clear button on every page
  • Short form that you have tested this week
  • WhatsApp and phone options are easy to find
